Security forces arrest criminal band in South Darfur
July 23, 2016 (NYALA) – Security organs in South Darfur state have arrested an armed criminal band consisting of eight persons who were accused of committing several looting and killing crimes in the capital, Nyala.
Al-Faki, who addressed police officers in Nyala on Saturday, said the security raids that were carried out recently have broken the back of the outlaws, calling on the residents to immediately report any crimes or suspicious acts.
For his part, North Darfur’s police director Balla Mohamed Hussein said the security organs arrested the criminals who were accused of killing a woman and her son in Al-Salam neighborhood earlier this month.
He added that the perpetrators were in possession of 2 Kalashnikov rifles, 15 stolen mobile phones and large quantities of narcotic pills and illegal drugs.
Nyala residents have recently expressed concern over the return of the lawlessness situation which prevailed in Nyala before imposing the emergency situation.
Following several looting and killing incidents last month, South Darfur state deployed large military reinforcements to enhance security and curb looting crimes in Nyala.
Since July 2014, North Darfur government declared an indefinite emergency situation in the state, including a curfew from 07:00 pm to 07:00 am in Nyala.
The decision also banned riding of motorcycles by more than one person, holding weapons while wearing civilian clothes, vehicles driving around without license plates, and wearing a Kadamool (a turban which covers the face).
