Sudan launches 12th immunization campaign against polio

KHARTOUM, Oct 9, 2004 (Aray Alaam) — Sudan has launched last week on the first of October, the activities of the immunization campaign against polio which will continue till the 9th of current October, and will immediately be followed by the 12th national campaign to eradicate polio from the Sudan

According to the World Health Organization, the Sudan has realized great achievements to eradicate polio due to its adherence to the issues of children and their health.

The minister of health, Dr. Ahmed Bilal said this programme is carried over by an administration affiliated to the ministry of health and was established in 1967.

In 1980 the programme made the first working plan aimed at immunizing 80% from the targeted group of 3 years old children in about 45 urban cities in the period from 1986 -1990.

He explained that the ministry is the body that set the immunization plans, support the programmes , provide the technical cadres and all the other assisting frameworks besides its active role in providing the local component to implement the plans and programme.

The minister explained that the campaign will include a combing campaign to Darfur three states in two rounds the first was carried in the 30th of last July and the second one will be from the August 27th to the 30th Of October while the 12th national campaign will start from the 10th to the 13th of current October

He added that until now the Sudan has implemented successfully a total of 22 rounds in all parts of the Sudan in addition to 7 combing campaigns and other extra 6 campaigns , All the voluntary organizations and national and governmental organizations will participate and support the work in the national 12th campaign , the minister indicated.
