Sudan to increase oil production to 500,000 barrels per day
KHARTOUM, Nov14, 2004 (SUNA) — The Ministry of Energy and Mining announced that it has worked out a plan to increase the oil productivity to 500,000 barrels per day, and to transfer the oil exploration operation to new discovered oil fields in central and north Sudan.
The ministry also has plans to increase the oil refinery to meet local need for petroleum products, through expanding the refinery capacity of Khartoum Oil Refinery and rehabilitation of Port-Sudan Refinery.
After increasing the oil refinery’s capacity, around 25.5 million barrels can be produced per year toward meeting the local requirement.
The Ministry of Energy and Mining also plans to establish a new oil pipe-line to cope with the expansion in oil productivity and refining. Ariab Gold Mining is expected to produce 5,000 kilograms in the year 2005.
