Sudanese government, splinter Darfur rebel group end talks in Chad

TINE, Chad, Jan 3, 2004 (Sudanese TV) — The joint tripartite committee between the government delegation and the National Movement for Reform and Development (NMRD), and the Chadian government has ended its meeting in the Chadian town of Tine.

The Chadian mediator and minister for public security and immigration, Abderahmane Moussa, said his government had directed Chadian officials at the border to facilitate the return of Sudanese refugees to their homes and ensure their return. He at the same time warned about the consequences of hindering their return.

Meanwhile, the chairman of the government delegation to the talks, Al-Sharif Ahmad Umar Badr, hailed the Chadian president’s role and his commitment to follow-up the negotiations and support the phases. He pointed out the government’s commitment to provide for and facilitate the return of Sudanese refugees from Chad.

The secretary-general of the NMRD, Nur-al-Din Manawi Barsham, said that his movement was confirming its total commitment to the Ndjamena agreement and its implementation.
