Eritrean ruling party meets Sudanese opposition Popular Congress

ASMARA, Feb 09, 2005 (ERINA) — An 18-member delegation of the Sudanese Popular National Congress [PNC] party, headed by the deputy secretary of the party, Ali al-Haj met and held talks today with senior officials of the [ruling] PFDJ [People’s Front for Democracy and Justice] headed by the secretary of the front, Al-Amin Mohamed Saeed.

Al-Amin Mohamed Saeed the Secretary general of the Eritrean PFDJ receives a delegation from the Sudanese opposition Popular National Congress headed by deputy secretary of the party, Ali Al-Haj (Erina) .

During the meeting held at the PFDJ’s central office in Asmara, both parties discussed on ways of strengthening relations between the PFDJ and the Sudanese Popular National Congress as well as developments of the peace process in the Sudan. Both sides noted during the meeting that although significant progress has been made in the Sudanese peace process, comprehensive political solution to the crises in the Sudan has not yet been achieved while the situations in the western, eastern, central and other parts of the Sudan remain unsettled.

In a press briefing about the meeting, Al-Amin Mohamed Saeed of the PFDJ noted that the meeting discussed issues related to strengthening of relations between the two sides in a way that can benefit both peoples, finding ways of bringing lasting settlement to the Sudanese crises, and promoting relations between the two sides. He further stated that Eritrea has been exerting efforts to ensure peace and stability in the entire Sudan.

After disclosing that the meeting was aimed at strengthening relations between the two sides, Ali al-Haj on his part pointed out that both parties agreed to establish committees to map out practical steps of cooperation. As for the Khartoum regime’s recent atrocities against civilian protestors in Port Sudan, Ali al-Haj underlined the importance of the prior prerequisite for getting rid of security organs of the regime.
