Chinese envoy visits Sudan on ties, Darfur

KHARTOUM, Feb 19, 2005 (Xinhua) — Special Envoy for the Chinese government and Vice Foreign Minister Lu Guozeng visited Khartoum on Saturday for talks with Sudanese President Omar el-Bashir.

Lu_Guozeng.jpgDuring their meeting, the two sides exchanged in-depth views on bilateral relations and the situation in the western Sudanese region of Darfur as well as other issues of common interests.

They expressed satisfaction on the positive development of the Sudanese-Chinese relations, hoping to enhance and deepen bilateralcooperation in all fields.

The Chinese envoy congratulated the Sudanese government on the recent signature of a comprehensive peace agreement with the southin the Kenyan capital Nairobi.

The Chinese official voiced concerns of the Chinese government on the Darfur issue, urging all sides concerned to exert more efforts to solve it as soon as possible.

The Sudanese president expressed appreciation for the efforts by China to solve the Darfur issue, reiterating the government’s commitment to find a political solution to it.
