Detained Sudanese students released
KHARTOUM, Sudan, Aug 05, 2003 (AP) — Twenty students detained after riots at a university have been freed after promising to behave, police said on Tuesday.
Sudanese engineering students demanding better degrees set fire to two floors of the faculty of engineering and a vehicle at Khartoum’s Sudan University for Science and Technology Sunday. Police said the students were freed Monday after signing good conduct pledges.
The students enrolled in a program that granted engineering diplomas were demanding bachelor’s degrees.
