February 10, 2025 (PORT SUDAN) – Sudan’s government has condemned the United Arab Emirates’ efforts to convene a conference on Sudan during the upcoming African Union summit in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, describing the move as “an all-out aggression.”

Sudan has filed a formal complaint with the UN Security Council against the UAE, accusing it of providing military equipment and sophisticated weapons to the Rapid Support Forces (RSF) through Chad.

“The UAE is making harmful moves to hold a special conference on the situation in Sudan on February 14, on the sidelines of the African Union summit,” said Malik Agar, deputy chairman of Sudan’s Sovereign Council, in a statement issued late Monday.

He said the move constitutes a crime and a full-fledged aggression against an African country seeking to protect its land and sovereignty and contradicts the principles of the African Union, which are based on respect for sovereignty and unity.

Agar explained that Abu Dhabi is trying to impose its political agenda at the planned conference by insisting on the participation of the UN Secretary-General and the Ethiopian Prime Minister, especially as it is being held on the same day that African leaders are participating in the Peace and Security Council meeting.

“This ill-intentioned timing is nothing more than an attempt to play on the regional political scene and create discussions far from the interests of Sudan, turning it into another political bazaar that serves the purposes of Emirati aggression,” he added.

Malik Agar called on Ethiopia to take into account common interests, praising Egypt’s position of rejecting the move, saying the UAE “seeks to distort the facts and continue the aggression against Sudan.”

Agar announced Sudan’s rejection of holding meetings to discuss its internal affairs without its participation, especially when initiated by a country outside the African Union.

He said the UAE is trying to whitewash its image and cover up its direct involvement in supporting terrorism in Africa, particularly in Sudan, by arming and supporting the RSF.

“Sudan will not accept any interference or manipulation of the fate of its people or the determination of its political course, and we call on all countries and peace-loving peoples of the world to unite and stand together in the face of these attempts that serve only the interests of the intervening parties,” he said.

Malik Agar noted that the army’s and national forces’ efforts to restore security and stability are continuing to end the “rebellion of the Rapid Support Forces.”Recent victories have proven that a military solution is not final but a necessary step to pave the way for a comprehensive political dialogue that guarantees the rights of victims and re-establishes the state.

He further called on the African Union to re-evaluate its decisions regarding Sudan.

The Sudanese government has presented a roadmap for the post-war period, which includes launching a comprehensive national dialogue, forming a government of independent competencies after amending the constitutional document, and affirming freedom of opinion and political action, provided that national constants are not compromised.
