April 19, 2025 (AM KADADAH) – Activists on Saturday reported that the paramilitary Rapid Support Forces (RSF) attacked Broush village in North Darfur’s Am Kadadah locality, resulting in civilian deaths and injuries.

Witnesses and activists reported that casualties included women and children.

The attack follows the RSF’s capture of Am Kadadah, east of the North Darfur capital El Fasher, on April 10. The RSF took the city after days of fighting against an ethnic militia reportedly backed by the Sudanese Armed Forces (SAF).

The Am Kadadah Locality Emergency Room confirmed that civilian casualties resulted from an assault on Broush. In a statement, it said the RSF “launched a brutal attack on the village of Broush, resulting in deaths and injuries among unarmed civilians, including women and children.”

The emergency body condemned the violence, describing it as a “heinous massacre” and a “full-fledged war crime,” violating international humanitarian law.

Fears were raised that RSF troops conducting operations in the area could commit further abuses against residents. Reports from Am Kadadah city following the RSF takeover detailed widespread looting, forced displacement, arson, and killings, including of medical personnel.

The Emergency Room statement stressed that targeting unarmed civilians was “completely unacceptable” and called for an immediate halt to such actions.

It demanded “immediate and effective protection” for civilians in the Am Kadadah locality, particularly Broush village and other affected areas. The group also called for guarantees of “safe and sustainable access to humanitarian aid for all those in need, without any obstacles.”

The statement criticised what it termed the “silence and inaction of the international community,” warning this could encourage further violations and increase the suffering of civilians displaced since the initial attack on Am Kadadah locality.

Civilians who fled Am Kadadah city to nearby villages face dire humanitarian conditions, lacking adequate food, drinking water, shelter, and protection, according to local sources.
