May 18, 2025 (EL FASHER) – Activists reported on Sunday that 14 civilians were killed and others injured in shelling by the Rapid Support Forces (RSF) on a market in Abu Shouk camp north of El Fasher in North Darfur State, western Sudan.
Residents of Abu Shouk live amidst tragic conditions, after the health centre stopped operating, with a lack of medicine and food supplies, a situation that worsened after all communal kitchens stopped operating except one.
The Emergency Room of Abu Shouk camp said in a statement that “14 people were martyred and others were injured as a result of artillery shelling by the RSF targeting the Nevasha market in Abu Shouk camp.”
It explained that the shelling targeted the market as a gathering point, and other sites inside the camp, such as mosques and homes near public facilities.
The majority of residents of Abu Shouk camp and El Fasher have been forced to dig underground shelters for protection from artillery shelling and drone strikes. Yet, large numbers of civilians are dying daily as a result of indiscriminate shelling.
The RSF seeks to displace the remaining residents of the camp, which is suffering from famine, through daily shelling, which has led to the killing of large numbers of displaced persons and the destruction of water sources and dozens of homes.
The RSF has intensified the siege on El Fasher this year, after displacing the residents of villages south, west, north and east of the city, as well as Zamzam camp, and destroying medical facilities, water sources, and main markets, which has caused a shortage of goods and the unavailability of some items.
