May 28, 2025 (AL KHUWAI) – At least 10 civilians were killed and others injured on Wednesday in drone attacks by the Rapid Support Forces (RSF) targeting a market and residential areas in Sudan’s West and South Kordofan states, according to local sources and media reports.

The RSF has intensified air attacks this month on towns in the Kordofan region, a theatre of fierce clashes between the warring sides, as it seeks to slow army advances in North, West, and South Kordofan, Sudan Tribune reported.

An RSF drone strike on the market in Al Khuwai, West Kordofan, killed at least eight people and injured 12, local sources told the Sudan Tribune news outlet.

The Sudanese army and allied armed groups had captured Al Khuwai from the RSF earlier this month after heavy fighting.

Large army reinforcements have arrived in the Al Khuwai area in recent days, Sudan Tribune said. Meanwhile, the RSF is reportedly massing fighters in Al Nuhud city and nearby villages, signalling potential for more bloody clashes as the army tries to reach the Darfur region and break the siege of El Fasher.

In Al Dubeibat, South Kordofan, a similar attack killed two civilians and injured five, sources told Sudan Tribune. Separately, fighter jets hit an army position in Al Dubeibat, killing soldiers and destroying combat vehicles, they added.

The army had recaptured the strategic Al Dubeibat area in South Kordofan from the RSF on May 23, bringing it closer to lifting the siege on Al Dilling, the state’s second-largest city.

Al Dubeibat, the capital of Al Qoz locality, is strategically located in Kordofan. It hosts the “Taiba Triangle,” a key crossroads linking the three Kordofan states and routes leading south to Al Dilling and Kadugli, west to Abu Zabad, Al Fula, and Babanusa, and north to El Obeid.
