August 7, 2025 (PORT SUDAN) – Sudan’s Public Prosecution announced on Thursday it had filed new lawsuits against 17 leaders of the rival ‘Tasis’ alliance, including paramilitary commander Mohamed Hamdan Daglo, accusing them of war crimes and attempting to undermine the state.

The alliance, formed last month in Nyala, comprises a diverse array of political and armed group leaders who have established a parallel government to rival the army-led administration in Port Sudan.

In addition to Daglo, widely known as Hemetti, the list of accused individuals includes prominent figures such as Abdelaziz al-Hilu, leader of the SPLM-N rebel group, and former Darfur rebel leaders Hadi Idris and Tahir Hajer.

A statement from the prosecution said the charges stem from alleged violations against civilians in the cities of El Fasher in North Darfur, and Kadugli and Dilling in South Kordofan. The lawsuits cite continuous attacks, shelling to displace residents, and imposing sieges that have led to starvation.

A separate charge accuses the alliance of undermining the constitutional order by forming a parallel government. The alleged offences, filed under Sudan’s criminal code, include waging war against the state, crimes against humanity, war crimes, and genocide.

The prosecution stated it has begun taking statements from witnesses and victims to complete its investigation.

The new legal action follows other recent moves against the RSF leadership. Two days ago, a counter-terrorism court charged the RSF commander, two of his brothers, and 13 other defendants with genocide and crimes against humanity in the case of the killing of the former governor of West Darfur, Khamis Abdallah Abakar, on June 14, 2023.
