September 12, 2025 (EL FASHER) – At least 10 civilians, including humanitarian volunteers, were killed by the Rapid Support Forces (RSF) during an incursion into the northeastern neighbourhoods of El Fasher, survivors said on Friday.

The security situation in the North Darfur capital has deteriorated amid daily RSF ground and air attacks as the paramilitary group attempts to capture the army’s main base in the city, the 6th Infantry Division.

Humanitarian conditions have severely worsened for residents due to a lack of food and medicine caused by a tight RSF siege on the city.

“The Rapid Support Forces raided homes in the neighbourhood yesterday, shooting at them directly after accusing them of loyalty to the army and the joint force,” Aboulgasim Mohamed Abakar, a resident of the Al-Nasr neighbourhood, told Sudan Tribune.

He said at least ten civilians were shot dead, including the field director of a local initiative that runs community kitchens for people affected by the conflict.

Abakar added that the RSF displaced the remaining residents from the neighbourhood, which lies about 3 km northeast of the Abu Shouk camp, forcing them to flee towards the city centre.

Military sources told Sudan Tribune that the army and an allied joint force withdrew from their defensive positions in the Al-Nasr neighbourhood due to intense artillery and drone attacks, which allowed the RSF to advance.

The RSF has made several advances into El Fasher in recent weeks. In August, its forces entered the Abu Shouk camp, killing about 40 civilians, looting homes, and destroying 98% of the water sources, according to a local emergency response room. That incursion caused a new wave of displacement.
