September 18, 2025 (NEW YORK) – The United Nations Personal Envoy for Sudan, Ramtane Lamamra, has concluded a visit to Port Sudan to advance efforts towards an inclusive peace process, a UN spokesperson announced on Wednesday.

The visit, which followed preliminary consultations in Nairobi, involved what the UN described as “very constructive engagements” with a wide range of Sudanese stakeholders.

In Port Sudan, Lamamra held discussions with government officials, including Prime Minister Kamil Idris and Foreign Minister Salem. In his meeting, Minister Salem stressed that the government’s own peace roadmap, previously submitted to the U.N., serves as the “main reference” for any path forward.

The envoy also met with civilian political actors, civil society representatives from women’s groups, and members of the diplomatic corps. Notably absent from his schedule were meetings with the head of the Sovereign Council, Abdel Fattah al-Burhan, or any other member of the military-led collegial body.

According to the spokesperson’s statement, the envoy’s trip is part of ongoing efforts to “lay the complex groundwork necessary to support an inclusive peace process.” The overarching aim is to secure a sustainable solution that respects and preserves Sudan’s sovereignty, unity, and territorial integrity.

Throughout his meetings, Lamamra consistently urged all parties to “engage in an inclusive and comprehensive dialogue aimed at advancing concrete steps towards a peaceful and united Sudan.”
