Sudan dismisses deputy central bank governor dogged by corruption allegations
September 18, 2025 (PORT SUDAN) – Sudan’s military leader, General Abdel Fattah al-Burhan, on Thursday dismissed the central bank’s deputy governor, Al-Nur Ajabna Ezz Al-Arab, a statement from the ruling Sovereignty Council said.
The statement gave no reason for the removal.
Ajabna’s dismissal comes just three months after his appointment in June sparked controversy in banking and political circles over unresolved allegations of financial corruption dating back to his time as a commercial banker.
The allegations, detailed in local media reports, centred on his tenure as general manager of Salam Bank. He was accused of selling bank assets below market value, approving fictitious loans, and unlawfully taking personal loans and excessive salaries.
He was detained for six months in 2021 in connection with the accusations but was later released without a final verdict ever being issued in his case, according to the reports.
The council’s decree directed all relevant authorities to implement the decision immediately. His brief tenure in one of the country’s top financial posts had drawn criticism over governance and transparency in Sudan’s banking sector.
