Sudan freezes bank accounts of ex-PM Hamdok, dozens of political figures
October 23, 2025 (PORT SUDAN) – Sudan’s central bank has ordered a freeze on the bank accounts of dozens of prominent political figures, including former Prime Minister Abdalla Hamdok, over accusations they support the paramilitary Rapid Support Forces (RSF), a bank directive showed on Thursday.
The move is linked to legal complaints filed by public prosecutors against Hamdok and others on charges including war crimes, ethnic cleansing, and genocide. Authorities have also asked Interpol to issue “red notices” for their arrest.
A letter from the central bank’s supervisory body to all banks ordered the “seizure and freezing of the accounts of approximately 39 individuals.” It cited a request from a national committee investigating alleged violations of national and international humanitarian law.
Those targeted are leaders of major political parties and pro-democracy alliances that have opposed the army’s war against the RSF.
The list includes Fadlallah Burma Nasir of the National Umma Party, Omer al-Digair of the Sudanese Congress Party, and Yasir Arman of the SPLM-N (Revolutionary Democratic Current). Mariam al-Sadiq, a former foreign minister, and Mohamed Hassan al-Ta’aishi, whom the RSF recently named to head a rival administration, were also named in the directive.
