More than 1,000 flee Sudan’s El Fasher to Tawila amid dire conditions
October 27, 2025 (TAWILA) – A spokesperson for displaced persons in Darfur announced on Monday the arrival of more than a thousand people from El Fasher, the capital of North Darfur, fleeing the deteriorating security and humanitarian situation.
The new wave of displacement comes shortly after the Rapid Support Forces (RSF) declared control over the city following fierce battles against the army and its allies.
The RSF has been accused of widespread violations against civilians during its attack on El Fasher, including the killing of thousands of escapees, some of whom were reportedly killed on an ethnic basis.
Adam Rijal, the spokesperson for the General Coordination for Displaced Persons and Refugees in Darfur, said in a statement that “approximately 360 families, comprising 1,117 individuals, fled El Fasher and arrived today in the Tawila area… escaping the deteriorating security and living conditions.”
He said the total number of displaced families arriving in Tawila between Oct. 18 and 27 has risen to 831, comprising 3,038 individuals. He noted that most are living in severe humanitarian conditions without access to basic services.
Rijal added that the newly arrived families “lack the minimum necessities of life” and are in urgent need of water, healthcare, food, shelter, and other emergency aid.
He called on the United Nations and humanitarian organizations to take immediate action to provide life-saving services to the displaced, who are living in challenging conditions.
Since April 2024, Tawila, controlled by the Sudan Liberation Movement, has become a gathering point for people fleeing El Fasher. Thousands live in camps amid severe humanitarian conditions due to a scarcity of aid.
