Sudanese groups decry ‘war crimes’ in El Fasher, demand safe passage
October 27, 2025 (EL FASHER) – Sudanese political and rights groups on Monday condemned alleged atrocities against civilians in El Fasher after its capture by the paramilitary Rapid Support Forces (RSF), demanding safe passage for residents and accountability for what they described as war crimes.
The outcry followed the RSF’s capture of the North Darfur capital over the weekend. The Emergency Lawyers, a rights group, said it had seen documented video clips showing RSF elements carrying out mass executions of civilians and prisoners of war from the army and allied groups.
In a statement, the group said the acts were part of a “systematic pattern amounting to war crimes and crimes against humanity,” alleging that RSF fighters pursued and summarily executed fleeing civilians. The group also cited videos showing the execution of soldiers who had surrendered, calling it a grave violation of the Geneva Conventions.
Several political parties, including the Sudanese Congress Party and the Samoud political alliance, echoed the call for safe humanitarian corridors to be opened immediately. They urged the United Nations, the African Union, and international organizations to pressure the warring parties to protect civilians and ensure aid can reach those in need.
Some groups held both the RSF and the Sudanese army responsible for the violence. Saleh Mahmoud of the Sudanese Communist Party told Sudan Tribune that the perpetrators of “heinous violations” would be prosecuted, criticizing the “silence” of UN Secretary-General António Guterres for failing to provide practical solutions.
The Arab Socialist Ba’ath Party described the conflict as an “absurd war” that has led to the country’s ruin, warning that its continuation puts Sudan’s sovereignty and territorial integrity at risk.
