Trump pledges U.S. will work to end Sudan war after Saudi request
November 19, 2025 (WASHINGTON) – U.S. President Donald Trump issued a statement calling for an “immediate halt” to the violence and “tremendous atrocities” taking place in Sudan, describing the situation as the “single biggest Humanitarian Crisis.”
In the statement, released on his social media platform, Trump claimed that Arab leaders, including the Crown Prince of Saudi Arabia, had asked him to use his influence to intervene.
Trump vowed to work with key Middle Eastern nations to end the violence, stabilize Sudan. He specifically named Saudi Arabia, United Arab Emirates, and Egypt, along with “other Middle Eastern partners,” as countries he would coordinate with.
He further described Sudan as a “Great Civilization, Culture” that has “gone bad,” but one that can be fixed through the cooperation of countries, including those in the region “of tremendous Wealth.”
The statement emphasizes the desperate need for “Food, doctors, and everything else” in the country.
Sudan government welcomes U.S., Saudi engagement
The Sudanese file was a top concern for Trump during discussions he held with Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman at the White House on Tuesday and Wednesday, marking the most decisive intervention from Washington since the outbreak of war in the African country in April 2023.
The Sovereignty Council stated that the Government of Sudan “welcomes the efforts of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, the United States of America, for peace in Sudan.”
The statement affirmed the Sudanese government’s “serious readiness to engage” with both countries to achieve the peace that the Sudanese people await. It added, “They are also thanked for their attention, continuous efforts to stop the bloodshed in Sudan.”
However, the Sudanese government rejects the presence of the United Arab Emirates within the Quad group mediating the crisis in Sudan. It accuses the UAE of providing military support to the Rapid Support Forces (RSF) and supplying them with mercenaries from various countries to fight the Sudanese Army.
Mediation efforts by the Quad group to resolve the Sudanese crisis, stop the devastating war since mid-April 2023 continue to falter.
The Sudanese Army refuses to accept a humanitarian truce proposed by the Quad mechanism until a set of conditions established by the military leadership is met. These conditions include the withdrawal of the RSF from the areas it occupies; otherwise, the military will continue the fight to expel them by force.
