RSF renews attacks on army headquarters in Babanusa
November 28, 2025 (BABANUSA) – The Rapid Support Forces (RSF) renewed their attacks on the headquarters of the Sudanese army’s 22nd Infantry Division in Babanusa, West Kordofan State, on Friday, according to local sources.
Since the beginning of this month, the RSF has resumed its assaults on Babanusa, bolstered by significant military reinforcements arriving from Darfur.
The renewed offensive follows the failure of a mediation effort led by some Misseriya tribal leaders. The proposal included provisions for the army’s withdrawal from Babanusa and Heglig, with safe passage guaranteed to North Kordofan or South Sudan. However, the Sudanese Armed Forces (SAF) rejected these terms, affirming their commitment to fighting until the end.
Military sources told Sudan Tribune that “the RSF launched its most violent attack at dawn today on Sudanese army positions in the vicinity of the 22nd Infantry Division command and the 89th Brigade in Babanusa.”
According to sources, army units repelled the attacks and forced the RSF to retreat after using heavy artillery, while SAF combat drones targeted the attacking forces’ deployment sites in the western, northern, and southern parts of the city.
In response, the RSF intensified artillery shelling and used suicide drones to carry out violent attacks on positions inside the 22nd Infantry Division and other locations.
Military sources indicate that the RSF extensively used FPV (First Person View) suicide drones, the same type of munitions used in recent days in El Fasher prior to its capture.
These drones are characterized by their ability to operate despite electronic jamming attempts, in addition to their high precision and ability to target positions and fortifications, including underground bunkers.
The RSF controls most areas of West Kordofan, including the state capital Al-Fula, as well as the towns of Al-Muglad, Al-Meiram, Lagawa, Al-Khuwai, Al-Nahud, and Wad Banda. The army retains control of Babanusa and some oil fields in Heglig, bordering South Sudan.
The RSF has not yet issued an official statement regarding the attack on Babanusa, but accounts on social media platforms broadcast video clips of RSF drones attacking army fortifications around the 22nd Infantry Division headquarters.
Last Monday, RSF Commander Mohamed Hamdan Dagalo “Hemetti” announced his agreement to a humanitarian truce that includes a three-month cessation of hostilities.
