December 1, 2025 (AL-ABBASSIA; South Kordofan) – The Sudan People’s Liberation Movement-North (SPLM-N) faction led by Abdelaziz al-Hilu announced on Monday that its forces had regained control of a town in South Kordofan State from the Sudanese Army (SAF).

The Army had seized the areas of Damra, Tabassa, Qardoud Nama, Al-Shawayah, Al-Jubailat, and Al-Sanadara in Al-Abbasiya locality on Sunday. These positions had been under SPLM-N control since 2011.

In a statement, the SPLM-N said that the “People’s Army—the movement’s forces—retook the Qardoud Nama area, located north of Al-Muraib, today from the Army, which had controlled it in recent days.”

The movement vowed that the People’s Army would continue its military operations to seize control of all divisions and garrisons of the Armed Forces within South Kordofan State.

In recent weeks, the SPLM-N and its ally, the Rapid Support Forces (RSF), have pushed massive military reinforcements that concentrated near the city of Dilling, signaling the intention of the two forces to attack the heavily besieged city.

The Army launched a simultaneous military operation in the localities of Al-Abbasiya, Abu Karshola, and Habela in South Kordofan State, the first of its kind since the conflict erupted in April 2023.

In recent days, the Kartala area in the Six Mountains region of Habela locality witnessed battles between the Army, the SPLM-N, and its allied RSF forces.

The Army is attempting to break the siege imposed by the SPLM-N and the RSF on Dilling, with the goal of reaching Kadugli. The Army previously announced a movement from El-Obeid planning to open up the areas between El-Obeid and Dilling.
