Sudanese authorities seize heavy weapons and chemicals in Northern State

December 29, 2025 (DONGOLA) – Sudanese authorities on Monday announced a specialized operation that led to the seizure of heavy weapons and hazardous chemicals from warehouses in the town of Al-Ghaba.

The Anti-Smuggling Department of the Police Forces said in a statement that the high-level raid resulted in the confiscation of large quantities of weapons and prohibited equipment.

Conducted in coordination with security units and the Public Prosecution, the operation uncovered 10 barrels of highly dangerous chemicals, specifically ethyl acetate and cerietol. Officials said these substances are frequently used in illegal activities such as currency counterfeiting, illicit printing, and food tampering, posing a direct threat to economic and public health.

The seized inventory included a drone with its controller, seven cannons of various types, sniper rifles, pistols, and a significant amount of multi-calibre ammunition. Forces also recovered 60 B10 shells, grenades, and weapon magazines.

In addition to the weaponry, authorities discovered wireless communication devices, including Starlink terminals, “black dollars,” and four unregistered vehicles.

Lieutenant General Salah Ahmed Ibrahim, Director of the Customs Forces, described the seizure as a qualitative achievement that reflects the high efficiency of anti-smuggling units. Brigadier General Atif Al-Radi, head of the Anti-Smuggling Department in the Northern State, said the raid followed a period of intelligence gathering and the tracking of smuggler movements.

Al-Radi confirmed that all legal procedures have been initiated regarding the confiscated items. He added that forces remain on high alert to secure the state’s borders and combat smuggling activities that undermine national security.

The Northern State shares borders with Egypt and Libya, serving as a known corridor for the trafficking of drugs, weapons, and people.
