12 killed in RSF drone strike on South Kordofan market

January 15, 2026 (DILLING) – At least 12 people were killed and dozens more injured on Thursday in a drone strike carried out by the Rapid Support Forces (RSF) targeting a market in the city of Dilling in South Kordofan state.

Over the past few weeks, the RSF and the Sudan People’s Liberation Movement-North (SPLM-N) have intensified shelling and drone attacks on Dilling, the second-largest city in the state. These escalations, which coincide with aerial attacks on the state capital Kadugli, have resulted in dozens of deaths and the destruction of essential service facilities.

A medical worker at Umm Bakhita Hospital told Sudan Tribune that approximately 12 civilians died and more than 16 others were injured in the strike.

The source explained that the medical facility where the victims were taken is suffering from an acute shortage of medicines, with some supplies completely exhausted. The lack of resources has led to rising mortality rates among the wounded.

The Sudan Doctors Network previously reported that three major hospitals in Dilling have been forced out of service due to aerial bombardment and heavy artillery fire. The network also noted that the city is facing a severe shortage of medical personnel, most of whom have fled the fighting.

Dilling is currently seeing massive waves of civilian displacement toward North Kordofan. The journey remains fraught with danger, as civilians face widespread violations by RSF forces who control the national highway linking Dilling to the North Kordofan capital, El Obeid.
