Dozens killed in RSF drone strike in Sudan’s South Kordofan

January 28, 2026 (DILLING) – Dozens of civilians were killed, and others injured on Wednesday in a drone strike by the Rapid Support Forces (RSF) targeting a gathering in the city of Dilling, South Kordofan, local sources and medical groups said.

The attack involved suicide drones and struck various parts of the city, including the main market and the headquarters of the Sudanese army’s 54th Brigade, sources said.

The strike comes two days after the Sudanese army announced it had broken a siege on Dilling by reconnecting it to North Kordofan State to the east. The breakthrough followed intense battles between the army and its allies against the RSF and the Sudan People’s Liberation Movement-North (SPLM-N) led by Abdel Aziz al-Hilu.

Since the siege was lifted, the city has faced repeated drone attacks that have caused numerous casualties and destroyed service facilities.

Military sources said aid delivery remains hindered as the RSF attempts to cut the eastern road and reimpose the siege. The army continues to defend the area, repelling RSF attacks near the strategically located town of Habila.

The Sudan Doctors Network called for an urgent humanitarian corridor and the provision of essential medical and food supplies, citing deteriorating conditions and a severe lack of health services in the city.

Local sources reported an acute shortage of medicines, particularly intravenous fluids in Dilling.

The network appealed to international and regional organizations and U.N. agencies to intervene immediately. It warned that more than 1,300 cases of malnutrition have been recorded, the majority among children, and cautioned of severe health consequences without immediate help.

“Dispatching urgent humanitarian convoys is a top priority to ensure the arrival of food and medicine and to reinforce health facilities with necessary staff,” the network said.

The group renewed its call for an end to the targeting of medical facilities and urged that the health sector remain neutral in the conflict.
