February 7, 2026 (SHENDI) – The advisor to the leader of the Democratic Unionist Party-Original (DUP-Original), Hatim al-Sir, announced on Saturday the party’s preliminary approval to participate in a transitional legislative council.

Al-Sir emphasized the importance of a comprehensive, Sudanese-owned dialogue held inside the country to end the conflict and establish sustainable peace. The DUP-Original has maintained a position of supporting state institutions against the Rapid Support Forces (RSF), holding the paramilitary group responsible for the war and widespread violations against civilians and infrastructure.

Speaking at a meeting in River Nile state on Friday, Sir said party leadership, acting on the directives of chairman Mohamed Osman al-Mirghani, is preparing a formal vision for the formation of a legislative council to complete the country’s state institutions as outlined in the constitutional document.

The party advisor stated that the next phase of the political process requires a dialogue held on Sudanese soil to ensure peace and the eventual transfer of executive power to a transitional government with the expertise to manage national affairs.

National dialogue and the preservation of social peace are essential to building a stable state capable of protecting citizens equally despite internal and regional challenges, Sir added. He noted that the party would increase its efforts to meet the expectations of the Sudanese people.

Sir praised the Sudanese Armed Forces for their role in recent operations, stating that the public would remember the military’s efforts to keep the country united. He saluted the army for recapturing several towns from militia control and paid tribute to the casualties among the military, police, security forces, and allied volunteer groups.
