Sudan army says destroys second RSF air defence system in Kordofan
February 15, 2026 (KHARTOUM) – Sudan’s army said on Sunday it destroyed a Rapid Support Forces (RSF) air defence system in West Kordofan, the second such strike in less than a week as the military moves to degrade its rival’s specialized weaponry.
The military previously reported neutralizing a K-2000 defence system on Feb. 10 in the Al-Dibaibat area of South Kordofan, alongside the destruction of drones at Nyala Airport.
Media reports indicate that the RSF has installed advanced air defence systems at Nyala Airport and near the city of El Fasher, as well as across the Kordofan region. These systems were previously linked to the downing of several Sudanese military aircraft.
In a statement, the army spokesperson’s office said government forces carried out a “specialized operation” in the Abu Zabad area of West Kordofan. The strike destroyed an air defence system belonging to the RSF, which the statement referred to as the “terrorist Dagalo family militia,” and caused significant casualties and equipment losses.
Military sources told Sudan Tribune that the equipment destroyed in Abu Zabad was a Chinese-made FB-10 short-range missile defence system. The system is designed to engage low-altitude targets, including drones, helicopters, and low-flying aircraft.
The army spokesperson released video footage showing the system being destroyed by drones, likely Turkish-made Bayraktar Akinci models. The system consists of two primary components: a launch vehicle equipped with missile containers and tracking systems, and a second vehicle for command and technical support.
Sources said the operation hit the first vehicle on Saturday and the second on Sunday morning, resulting in the system’s total destruction.
Military operations have escalated in the Kordofan region recently. While the army managed to break a siege on the cities of Kadugli and Dilling in South Kordofan, the RSF has increasingly turned to drone strikes. These have targeted civilian infrastructure and warehouses belonging to international organizations in major South Kordofan towns.
