Sudan, Belarus to update cooperation agreements during joint committee meetings
May 4, 2026 (MINSK) – Sudan and Belarus on Monday agreed to include the amendment and adoption of several existing bilateral agreements on the agenda of the Joint Ministerial Committee meetings currently underway in Minsk.
Sudan and Belarus previously signed a series of cooperation protocols in 2017 and 2018. These agreements cover vital sectors including agriculture, oil, industry, science and technology, health, higher education, and scientific research.
The fifth session of the Sudan-Belarus Joint Ministerial Committee commenced in the Belarusian capital on Monday and is scheduled to run from May 4 to May 8.
The Sudanese Foreign Ministry said in a statement that both parties will begin formal deliberations on Tuesday, in accordance with the agreed agenda. The primary focus of these meetings will be amending and formally adopting agreements reached in previous periods to ensure they meet current requirements.
The first day of the committee’s work included field visits to the Minsk Tractor Works and the Development Bank of the Republic of Belarus. The Sudanese delegation reviewed Belarusian capabilities in agricultural machinery manufacturing and discussed financing opportunities for various development projects in Sudan.
The Sudanese delegation is led by Minister of Energy Moatasim Ibrahim and includes State Minister at the Ministry of Finance Mohamed Nour Abdel Daim. The Belarusian side is headed by the First Deputy Minister of Natural Resources and Environmental Protection, Maksim Viktorovich.
The Foreign Ministry’s statement noted that the meetings take place within the context of strengthening bilateral relations and bolstering cooperation in economic, trade, and investment fields.
The meetings are being held at a time of increasing momentum in bilateral cooperation. Both nations expressed readiness to open new political and economic horizons that establish a strategic framework for their relations across various sectors.
On September 25, 2025, Foreign Minister Mohieddin Salem highlighted that cooperation with Belarus remains centered on vital sectors such as agriculture, health, and education.
