Sudan ruling council orders immediate measures to address service shortages

June 17, 2026 (KHARTOUM) – Sudan’s Sovereign Council directed the government on Wednesday to take immediate measures to provide basic services to citizens and reviewed the country’s security situation.

Large parts of the country, including Khartoum, face severe fuel shortages, prolonged electricity outages, and soaring commodity prices driven by the rapid collapse of the Sudanese pound against foreign currencies.

The transitional council held its regular meeting, chaired by Abdel Fattah al-Burhan, to assess security and economic developments across the country.

A statement issued after the meeting said the council ordered immediate interventions to ensure the delivery of essential services to the public.

The meeting also discussed ongoing arrangements to convene an intra-Sudanese dialogue to build a unified national vision to resolve the crisis.

According to the statement, the council reviewed updates on violations committed by the Rapid Support Forces in Darfur, Kordofan, and the Blue Nile region.

The council assured citizens that the armed forces and allied groups are capable of restoring stability across Sudan, urging the public to ignore rumours that aim to undermine national security.
