Sudan head of state meets South Sudan intelligence chief over border security

June 25, 2026 (KHARTOUM) – The head of Sudan’s Sovereign Council, General Abdel Fattah al-Burhan, met on Thursday with the director of South Sudan’s National Security Service, General Akec Tong Aleu, to discuss bilateral relations and joint border security.

The meeting, held in Khartoum, was also attended by the director of Sudan’s General Intelligence Service, General Ahmed Ibrahim Mufaddal.

Discussions focused on ways to enhance and develop bilateral relations across various fields to serve mutual interests, according to the official news agency SUNA.

The two sides examined methods to strengthen joint security cooperation and coordinate efforts to secure the shared border. The talks aimed to address current security challenges and achieve sustainable stability for the people of both nations.

The talks build on previous high-level security engagements between the two neighbours. During a visit to Juba on January 27, 2026, the Deputy Chairman of the Sovereign Council, Malik Agar, discussed national security issues and mechanisms to enhance mutual stability with President Salva Kiir and senior security officials.

During Thursday’s meeting, Aleu conveyed greetings from South Sudanese President Salva Kiir Mayardit to Burhan, expressing wishes for his health and for continued security, stability, and development in Sudan.
