Ousted Sudanese president moved to military-run residence in Khartoum
October 1, 2026 (KHARTOUM) – Ousted Sudanese President Omer al-Bashir has been moved to a residence supervised by military authorities in the capital, Khartoum, informed sources told Sudan Tribune on Thursday.
Calls have grown in recent days to permit the former leader to leave the country for specialised medical treatment following a recent health crisis.
Sudanese authorities have not commented on the demands, despite direct appeals by Bashir’s family to Sovereign Council leader General Abdel Fattah al-Burhan to allow him to travel abroad for medical care.
An official source told Sudan Tribune that Bashir was in good health and receiving close medical attention.
Bashir’s family visited him at an undisclosed residential compound to check on his condition and review his personal and medical needs, which state officials addressed, the source said.
Senior government officials also visited Bashir, the source added, declining to identify them or say whether he would be permitted to seek treatment overseas.
Social media campaigns have increasingly urged the military authorities to allow Bashir to travel outside Sudan.
Any move to let him leave risks triggering domestic political controversy and international condemnation. Bashir is wanted by the International Criminal Court for alleged genocide and war crimes in Darfur, and remains subject to domestic legal proceedings in Sudan.
