Sudanese Communist figure barred from travelling aboard

March 23, 2016 (KHARTOUM) – Sudanese security service prevented a senior member of the opposition Community party from travelling to Cairo and Geneva.

Sideeg Youssef , according to opposition sources was heading to Cairo and from there he intended to travel to Geneva to attend the discussion of Sudan annual report at the UN Human Rights Council later this month.

In a statement issued on Wednesday Youssef said security agents prevented his travel and confiscated his passport while he was at Khartoum International Airport to take a flight to the Egyptian capital.

The Sudanese opposition groups are planning to hold a meeting to discuss the organizational structures of the opposition “Sudan Call” alliance.

The Sudanese Communist Party, which refuses to take in the dialogue process before the implementations of confidence building measures, seeks to consult its allies from the opposition groups outside the country before this meeting.

Youssef had been barred from travelling abroad several times in the past, like other opposition leaders.
