Sudanese clerics vow to merge churches in north and south Sudan

NAIROBI, 12 July 2005 — (Sudan Radio) – The Episcopal church of the Sudan’s house of bishops met in Kampala last week to deliberate on the comprehensive peace agreement and the formation of the new government of national unity.

In a pastoral letter to Sudan Radio service on Sunday, the clerics vowed to merge the Sudan Council of Churches (SCC), and the New Sudan Council of Churches, (NSCC), to carry out development activities throughout Sudan, in cooperation with the new government of national unity.

The SCC has been operating in government controlled areas and the NSCC in the Sudan People’s Liberation Movement (SPLM) areas of southern Sudan.

Meanwhile the bishops stressed their stand against the consecration of 2 gay bishops in the Anglican Church in the United States and Canada. They said consecrations of homosexual bishops are unbiblical and would not be accepted in Sudan.
