Ethiopia’s MPs urge parliament to discuss persecutions in Oromia
Dec 29, 2005 (ADDIS ABABA) — Over 50 opposition MPs have filed petition and urged parliament to set a date to discuss the current human rights violations, arrest and harassment of innocent civilians in Oromia Regional State.
According to the Reporter, the MPs who filed the petition on 26 December were members of the Oromo Federalist Democratic Movement (OFDM), Oromo National Congress (ONC), United Ethiopian Democratic Forces (UEDF) and also Coalition for Unity and Democracy (CUD) from Oromia region.
Gebru Gebremariam, UEDF representative, said that he has asked parliament to set a date to discuss the current serious and alarming issues of mass arrest and intimidation of innocent people in the region.
