Sudanese NDA decries raising of petrol prices

Aug 21, 2006 (KHARTOUM) –The National Democratic Alliance (NDA) has criticized the government’s move to finance the budget deficit by raising petrol prices.

NDA spokesman Ali al-Sayid said the decision to raise the petrol prices shows that the government is adamant on its unpopular policies and this time it plans to give the Government of Southern Sudan (GOSS) a lesser oil share. He regretted that the GOSS is unaware of the government plan to reduce its oil share.

“The NDA rejects the price increase of basic commodities which target financing government militias and enriching its followers, he said. Al-Sayid also pointed out that the government decreed the price increase while parliament was in recess, which is a violation of the Comprehensive Peace Agreement.

“This clearly illustrates beyond doubt that the government would never give up its dictatorial styles,” the NDA spokesman said.

The NDA is a signatory of the Cairo agreement in May 2005. the deal treats mainly democratic change in the country. The NDA has two ministers in the government and some MPs in the federal parliament.
