Iran, Sudan discuss expansion of trade ties

TEHRAN, Jan 01, 2003 (AsiaPulse) — The Sudanese Minister of External Trade, Abd al-Hameed Musa Kasha, has called for the expansion of bilateral trade ties with Iran.

In a meeting with Secretary-General of Central Cooperatives Chamber of Iran Mohammad-Reza Ramezani, the two sides discussed the expansion of trade exchanges, the streamlining of economic relations and the establishment of joint economic committees.

Iran and Sudan would enjoy long-term cooperation due to cultural commonalities between the countries, Ramezani said.

He assessed the performance of cooperatives chamber as very positive and said it had adopted several measures in the fields of mines and industry, agriculture, foodstuffs, houses, technical and engineering devices, fishery, carpets and handicrafts.

He asked the Sudanese minister to do his utmost in order to hold exhibitions in the two countries, remove tariff obstacles and promote ties.

Musa Kasha, for his part, expressed deep condolences over the devastating earthquake in the southeastern city of Bam early on Friday.

He said his government is ready to grant concessions to Iran`s Cooperative Chamber to prepare grounds for its activities in the fields of livestock products.
