Sudanese ambassadors condemn military coup, as al-Mahdi pledges resistance
October 26, 2021 (KHARTOUM) – Nine Sudanese ambassadors have voiced their support to the Sudanese revolution and rejected the military takeover, while Foreign Minister Mariam al-Mahdi pledged to peacefully resist the coup from Khartoum.
Sudanese continue to protest in Khartoum streets to express their rejection of the dissolution of the transitional government and the reestablishment of the Transitional Military Council.
Seven people were killed and hundreds are injured by the Rapid Support Forces (RSF) who open fire on protesters to disperse them, recalling the bloody repression after 3 June 2019 in Khartoum.
Sudanese ambassadors to Belgium, France, Switzerland, China, South Africa, Qatar, Kuwait, and the UAE issued a joint statement Tuesday to condemn the coup d’état by General Abdel Fattah al-Burhan.
“We strongly condemn the military coup d’état in Khartoum and the unlawful detention of the Prime Minister and members of his cabinet,” reads the joint statement extended to the Sudan Tribune.
“We reiterate our unwavering commitment and full support to the struggle of the Sudanese people for freedom, peace and justice and the transition process to establish a permanent democratic system in the country,” they further added.
On Monday, Noureldin Satti Sudanese Ambassador to the United States denounced the forceful military takeover and rallied the calls to release the political detainees in Sudan.
Al-Mahdi condemns
Mariam al-Mahdi, the Foreign Minister on Tuesday condemned the military coup and vowed to peacefully resist it.
Al-Mahdi sent a short message to the foreign ministers around the world condemning the forceful takeover and the arrest of Sudanese senior officials and politicians including Prime Minister Hamdok.
She further said determined “to resist the military coup in Sudan with all peaceful means”.
“The legitimate head of the government, Abdallah Hamdok, and members of his government are still held in an unknown location,” al-Mahdi underlined calling to support their release.
