SPLM denies opening an office in Israel

March 5, 2008 (KHARTOUM) — The Sudan People’s Liberation Movement has denied the opening of an office in Israel.

Atem Deng, the SPLM leading member and deputy speaker of the National Assembly told the Al-Jazeera Satellite TV that the SPLM has no interest to open an office in Israel.

Sudan Tribune received yesterday a statement from a group of SPLM supporter in Israel saying they opened an office in Tel Aviv after consultations with the SPLM leadership in Juba.

The ruling National Congress Party organised a large scale campaign against Darfur SLM leader Abdel Wahid al-Nur for opening an office in Israel. The political forces in Khartoum also condemned the move.

However Sudan remains the only member of the Arab League that has an important number of its nationals living in Israel as refugees or illegal immigrants.

To proceed along, fear has never been a useful machanism–we have to learn how to stand firm and stand for our future.

I don’t think this is fear, but rather wise application of wisdom.

Martin Simon Wani,I have to remind you that your comment is short of logical reasoning. There is no doubt that the step the SPLM has taken by denying its rights is nothing but fear itself and this is no complain.

If Arab Sudanese are anti-Zionism for that matter and African Sudanese are not, searching for holiness in an holy Land like Palestian,is not a sin in Heaven or Earth.

If the SPLA doesn’t have the office in Israel, Deng should simply says they don’t have one. But this kind of the statement is disappointing, outraging, and falling short to the SPLA’s core view of point and interest. Why can the SPLA have office in Israel when it’s clearly stated in the CPA that they can open offices anywhere anytime? Deng has to review his statement and stop speaking for NCP. SPLA must remain independence from Khartoum’s successive regimes which had mudded Sudanese minds that Israel is our enemy. And the SPLA officials have to grow up and learn how to beg money from Arab countries without exposing and making another country as our enemy. What crime does Israel committed to Sudanese that make us enemies??? If there are sympathizers for Palestinians out there, they are free to do so without dragging the whole country into this kind of absurd.

I deeply failed to understand the reason as to why southerners scared to establish office in Isreal, as per this week, Khartoum regimes had openly anveil its plan to seek military corperation with Iran, which is also known to be at united state top list of the countries which sponsor terrorist, they did that without apparent consultation to the government of south sudan, what do Khartoum expect us to do?

Why is it a problem to open our office in Isreal or allow United State or other peaceful countiries even to come and establishe military bases in South Sudan if they want to, why don’t we open our offices where we want? I don’t see any major problem in that, all we want is imply a good relationship with other nations as whole world want. That is it.

Please let limit wrangling over simple issue.

    God bless.
