E. Equatoria MPs threatens mass resignations if speaker not removed

March 19, 2008 (JUBA) — The Legislators from Eastern Equatoria state particularly the SPLM members threatened to massively resign if the ousted speaker, Sanbina Darios was reinstated as claimed by SPLM Deputy Secretary General for Southern sector, Ann Itto.

Speaking on phone from Torit today afternoon, the representatives of twenty eight out of thirty SPLM members of parliament who signed for removal of Sabina Darious from speaker position said they are dismayed by Ann Itto’s statement issued through southern Sudan radio that removal of the speaker of Eastern Equatoria state interim Legislative Assembly was un constitutional because the alleged corruption charges on her was not proven by a competence auditor.

They accused the SPLM Deputy Secretary General of supporting corruption in the state through what they term her emotional statements over radio.

Sabina was accused of ordering police to search MPs during the opening of the fifth session, took-upon herself duty of signing financial documents contrary to financial regulations of the assembly, deceived and denied rights of members, downplayed embezzlement fraud that involved her brother on alleged sum of 36,674 Sudanese pounds, lack of accountability and transparency, ordered for amendment of the constitution of the state after it has been passed which contravenes article 70(4) of conduct of business regulations 2006 among others.

Governor Aloisio Emor Ojetuk to misled President Salva Kiir Mayardit on relieving Mr. Henery Odwar of his membership in Southern Sudan Legislative Assembly on allegation that he was occupying female seat of mandatory twenty-five percent representation at all level of government.

An eye witness caller said Ann Itto was greatly embarrassed to the extend that there were no senior official to see her off to airstrip and that she fears whether Ms Itto comes second SPLM convention will get the political support of her own state.

Some members of Eastern Equatoria parliamentarian SPLM Caucus members who requested not to be name claimed that governor Ojetuk has hand in removal of Sabina Darios whom they said has become a nuances to governor.

In another development a state spokesman bitterly complaint of Mrs. Bethy Achan Ogwaro of becoming a tourist minister than a serving the state through ministry of agriculture entrusted render agricultural services to people through her stewardship.

That since she was appointed to head ministry of agriculture, she was constantly travels to many places even without approval of the councilor of ministers than her dealing directly with governor Ojetuk and Tulio Odongi, minister of finance who was brain child of her appointment besides being her brother in law. “As soon as she arrives Torit, councilor of ministers are going to question her credibility to delivering services”, says state spokesman.
