Sudan lifts curfew in Khartoum, maintains it in Omdurman

May 11, 2008 (KHARTOUM) — Sudanese police announced today the end of the curfew in most of the capital saying the security situation is no longer affected in these areas.

However, Police General Mohamed Abdel-Majid said the curfew remains imposed in Omdurman, underlining that some JEM elements are hiding in some parts of the district.

Yesterday Sudanese security officials said yesterday would work all over the night to clear the capital from the rebel infiltrators.

The ministry of interior had imposed the curfew on Saturday from 05:00pm to 10:00 am today.
