RSF defector’s forces deployed in Khartoum and Omdurman

May 1, 2026 (KHARTOUM) – Military sources told Sudan Tribune that forces belonging to a breakaway Rapid Support Forces (RSF) commander have been deployed south of Khartoum and Omdurman.

The defecting RSF commander, Major General Al-Nour Ahmed Adam, widely known as “Al-Nour Al-Qubba,” arrived in areas controlled by the Sudanese army last week.

The Khartoum State Security Committee stated on Thursday that Al-Qubba’s forces are committed to the arrangements approved by the leadership of the regular forces for their presence in Khartoum state.

Sources explained that Al-Qubba’s troops were permitted to station south of Khartoum toward the outskirts of Jebel Aulia and south of the Al-Salha area in Omdurman.

The sources denied that drone strikes reported south of Khartoum or in the city of Rabak in White Nile State a few days ago had targeted Al-Qubba’s forces.

The sources clarified that all those specific troops are currently located only within Khartoum.

At the same time, the sources declined to comment on whether these forces would be transferred to fight in Kordofan and Darfur, emphasizing that such decisions rest solely with the army leadership.

Sudan Tribune learned that the forces accompanying Al-Nour Al-Qubba consist of 180 fighters armed with light weapons.

Social media activists have circulated images and reports of the deployment of these forces in several areas south of Khartoum and Omdurman, amid concerns about their presence in residential neighbourhoods.
