RSF seize police headquarters after two-day clashes
June 25, 2023 (KHARTOUM) – The Rapid Support Forces (RSF) announced on Sunday that they have successfully taken control of the headquarters of the Central Reserve Forces of the Sudanese police following a two-day intense conflict.
On Saturday, the Sudanese army repelled an assault by the RSF fighters targeting the command of the anti-riot police in the southern suburb of Al-Shaqilab, adjacent to the capital Khartoum.
But on Sunday, the RSF stated that its troops “managed to take full control of the headquarters of the Central Reserve Forces,” as they failed to distance themselves from this conflict with the army.
Video footage released by the group showed RSF fighters inside the police warehouse, removing numerous boxes of ammunition.
Eyewitnesses from south of Khartoum reported that warplanes bombed the headquarters of the Central Reserve after the Rapid Support Forces entered the premises.
Also, the police released a video depicting its soldiers and military personnel celebrating the bombing of the RSF fighters.
Two weeks after the eruption of the conflict in Khartoum, the military-led governmnet deployed the Central Reserve Forces deployed in Khartoum to protect civilians and markets.
Tragic Losses and Injuries
The Emergency Room in Kalakla and South Khartoum, a local group, revealed on Sunday that 14 individuals were killed and 217 others were injured due to the air raids and clashes in the residential area between the army and the paramilitary forces.
According to the group, the Turkish Hospital received a significant number of critically, moderately, and lightly injured individuals by live bullets and shells during the clashes.
“The hospital received 217 injured individuals, including 72 in critical condition, with 147 surgical operations performed by doctors,” added the statement.
