Three gunmen carjack UNAMID vehicle in North Darfur

June 1, 2009 (EL-FASHER) – Three gunmen carjacked a vehicle of the hybrid peacekeeping mission in Darfur, the UNAMID reported on Monday.

The vehicle was carjacked in El Fasher, the capital of North Darfur state on the evening of 30 May. “No injuries were reported” said the UNAMID daily media briefing.

The gunmen attacked a staff officer outside his residence and ordered him to hand over the keys of the vehicle. Sudanese police are investigating the incident.

“The vehicle was later found abandoned.”

In Khartoum, Mr. Rodolphe Adada the head of the peacekeeping mission met today with the Salah Abdallah Gosh the chief of the Sudanese security and intelligence services. The two officials discussed the latest security developments in Darfur.

Adada and Gosh also discussed a number of other issues concerning UNAMID and its deployment, the peacekeeping mission said.

Last week, the Sudanese army protested statements by the UNAMID information service about the capture of Um Baru, a small location near the Chadian border, by the rebels.
