Amum faces calls for resignation from backers of independents

By Ngor Arol Garang

February 11, 2010 (KHARTOUM) — Pagan Amum, Secretary General of the Sudan People’s Liberation Movement, in forums here in Khartoum faced rough and unpleasant comments from southern intellectuals with many calling on him to immediately consider resigning from his post saying he has caused a mess.

SPLM_Amum.jpgThe debate stems from the party leadership’s decisions surrounding the choice of candidates. Some candidates who were not chosen for the SPLM ticket decided to run independently.

“The SPLM Secretary General has invited to himself all these problems. He can not treat members of his party like members from the other political parties. He should be looking for fair, non-biased and equitable alternatives to addressing irregularities he admitted to have occurred in the selection processes of the candidates,” said an official observer who declined to be named.

The observer also criticized him for his open relations with media during party deliberations.

Similarly, another commentator in one of the public forums categorically commented that SPLM attempt to baby-sit independent candidates is unhealthy for the general interest of the party. “The decisions made at the SPLM Political Bureau are detrimental and divisive to say the least. I understand they were allowed to contest independently besides official nominees — what happened?” the official posed.

Some were antagonized by SPLM leadership’s decision to allow SPLM members who contest as independent candidates to keep their membership in the party. “Since they were allowed to maintain their membership, independent candidates have two advantages. One is to propagate whatever agenda or agendas they have as independent candidates and another one is that SPLM party as a whole cannot obstruct, interfere, or have a say in their affairs as independent candidates, because their “independent title” is there to guard them.”

In other words, independent candidates have the right to fight against SPLM, put SPLM is mute against them, since they have accorded themselves “more rights” than other SPLM members.

But another commentator observed that independent candidates are going to cause more fragmentation than previously thought. “Weeding them out for the general welfare of the party is better. Independent candidates main claim is that, they are fighting to represent the will of the people.”

“Which people?” posed another commentator saying pre-election polls are being conducted across the South for independent candidates to come up with lasting settlements to these concerns. But a supporter of the decision made by the SPLM Political Bureau angrily commented that “packing a few nosy purported supporters in vehicles, bought from our stolen money to chant so-and-so oyeeeee, does not represent the will of the people. These are opportunists who will not serve interest of the people they claim to back them if allowed.”

“Some never even visited the people they want to represent,” the official commented calling on Secretary General Pagan Amum to consider sucking their membership.

Amum on Tuesday, February 9, during a press interview with journalists, in the regional capital of Juba openly admitted existence of irregularities in the selection of candidates for various positions but never said how to address it now that he has admitted it.

It will be naive and an obstructionist for any supporter to direct or require the secretary general to resign base on the irregulaties that the political bureau has created. Amum was not the only determined of the whole deal in which the candidate were hand-picked. Everyone who dare to suggested that he is the man behind this saga, are either doom to their understanding to the politic or they are just another group of short memories to fully understand the political cycle within the SPLM. I blame the whole party not individual on this issue which was poorly served by the political bureau. Amum is a spoke person for the party and cannot be replicated because he spoke out the irregulaties of the process during the party nomination. The only people whom I can blame are Kiir, Machar, Wani, and Malik for failing to stop the back door deal within the party. Amum was not the main determine for those irregulaties. Stop pounding unfound rhetoric base on frustration.

The only thing we can do during the election is to go to the booth and vote for those who can change the trend of our waggon. The independent candidate are not an agent of Al bashir. So, stop poofing into scenario thought and leave the fact out to tell. Let move on and do the right thing during the election time or whinned down to yourself if we screwed the hell out of ourselves.

the calls for Pagan to resign are just foolish. He is well qualified to hold that position. He spares no sacred cows in defending us all against the northern propaganda machine. It is time for Southerners to appreciate his continuous relentless fight for our rights.

keep going Pagan, we the people are behind you.

    Dear Pagan Amum,

I am very happy to the extent that I cannot even express my happiness to the public for the decision that you have taken against the so called independent candidates for they want to take people back to square one.

They are agents from Khartoum government who want to interfere with our affairs because of much money being given to them by Arabs. It will never ever happen otherwise they must resign if they want to and leave us in peace but not pieces.
SPLA/M oyee! To those who know mathematics or mathematicians,I would like you to solve the following equations for me and make sure that I am waiting for the answers:

It is said that if you pray hard, you may get what you pray for. The SPLM prayed hard that we become democratic. Now that we are in the process of democratic transformation, the SPLM seems to have a second thought: they miss their period in the bush when dictating was the order of the day. The SG seems to have stuck in the student politics era: he does not seem to care about the future of his party. The selection process at Electoral Colleges was infantile and backward. Now the chicken have come back to roost. SPLM is wobbling at the first test of legitimacy. The future looks bad for the liberation party. SG should resign now!

Let the SPLM-DC do its best to rescue the South as the SPLM Falls Apart: Not only the independent candidates to demand Pagan Amum’s resignation but he should persist demanding for their dismissal from the SPLM party if they don’t withdraw their names from the NEC lists before it is too late. Even if Dr. Riek Machar try to back and prevent his wife Engelina Teny from being dismissed from SPLM and ministerior post in the Ministry of Energy and Mining in Khartoum because of not withdrawing her candidacy in Unity State gubernatorial contest, Pagan Amum should do it without any fear. If Machar and Kiir defy Amum’s decision, then he (Amum) should resign from the party as those of Salva Kiir, Dr. Riek and Mr. Wani Igga prepare themselves to leave the public offices in Juba in May 2010 to continue politicking in at homes or party Hqrs. There is no joke any more, either Pagan Amum or Independent Candidates for the SPLM and its failed leadership!!!

Salva Kiir is known to be a man who does not stand by his words because of his incompetence, Dr. Riek Machar is known for diplomacy of sweeping the dust under the carpets without giving real solutions, Wani Igga is known for killing projects and hiding the head in the sand afterwards when the messy things have become too hot to touch, and Pagan Amum is known for communists’ malicious arrogant propaganda without respect to logic and truth. With all these funny political behaviours, let’s wait and see where the SPLM will be heading to in the near future even if its members keep slumbering in the nostalgic past without acknowlwdgement of the present negative facts about the party.

Yes, it is the right time for the liberation of the South from the public money looters and incompetent leaders who thrive by tribalisma and dishonesty wihtout worrying about the people’s plight. April is the only time nearer to vote out bad leaders and then vote in the right ones who care about the interests of the people. Without good leaders to take up the leadership of the South after April elections there shall never be a guarantee of peaceful 2011 refererndum.

Independent Candidates are calling Amum to resign, what lame accuse? I knew this was coming. These opportunities have found there way-out and now they are taking it to next level. Well, Amum’s resignation is a necropolis. Whatever these crooks agents want from trouble will soon prevail. Now we see their color and where they are heading to.

It is about the time to kick them out of the party. Let SPLM lose it majority seats, we have never been a huge majority party or small minority party but we have been strong movement ever exist in the history of rebellion. We always have a room for every one including traitors but not this time even it we are not majority. If this one will make SPLM a minor party in South I will be happy to be part of this minor party then being in a majority party of crooks, traitors, lunatics, retards, blood suckers, and egotists.

I’m calling SPLM leaders and Politico Bureau to introduce an amendment that will avoid an individual who is looking for opportunity in the party and not the will of the party and its vision. Anyone seeks power over party’s vision should not be allowed to serves two masters at once. Their personal egotism is not what SPLM/A was fighting for. If each individual believes he/she deserve power than their colleague. Let them move on and form different party instead of causing predicament within the party.
All of us deserve more than just being a leader. Those who are longing for leadership should go to north because that is the only place where you can find all kind of crooks leaders. The independent candidates should be sack immediately without any objection. They are causing another more doom days and we are almost to the promising land. They deserve different party and not the SPLM. If they don’t like the way SPLM do their business why are they insisting to be in this party?

Pagan Amum must resign from his post for the good of the country.

I agreed with those who called on him to resign from his post because he was the one who caused all these confusion.

These independent candidates break away because Pagan Amum and his uncle Salva Kiir left them out from (SPLM) party that they believe it is their party.

They have right to run as independent candidates for they are representing the will of the people, which Pagan Amum and his uncle Salva Kiir are denying.

These independent candidates will never, never listen to any SPM/A delegations to drop from race.

Pagan Amum and his uncle Salva Kiir Mayardit are the one who run the country in a political criminal corruption.

They must stop it or this country gonna run red with blood in up coming election

    Thanks
