13 people killed after fresh fighting between SPLA and Misseriya
March 19, 2010 (JUBA) – Thirteen people were killed during clashes between Southern Sudan army and armed herders from Misseriya tribe in the Unity state, the SPLA spokesperson said on Friday.
The clashes occurred on Wednesday near Awarepiny Payam, in Biemnom County of southern state of unity at the border with South Kordofan State.
SPLA spokesperson Kuol Diem Kuol said the southern Sudan troops lost two soldiers while 11 nomads were killed adding two soldiers are also wounded.
Kuol added that the clashes were triggered by difference over the arms the cattle herders carry when they enter to southern Sudan for grazing. The SPLA would not prevent them to have access to water and grazing land but must come without arms, General Kuol stressed.
The southern Sudan authorities says the nomads must leave weapons in the north before to enter but the Misseriya nomads refuse saying they are attacked by cattle raiders and wild animals.
Following the signing of the CPA and establishment of the southern Sudan administration in Juba, authorities urge the Misseriya to disarm before to cross Kiir River also spelled ’Ba?r al Arab’ but the pastoralists say they still face attacks by gunmen to steal their cattle.
Commenting the clashes, the military spokesperson also said the northern herders were politically motivated.
“Somebody somewhere is pushing them (the Misseriya). They have been used for many years,” Kuol said.
An agreement signed earlier this year between the herders and southern officials says that the nomads may now bring in five small guns to accompany large herds and three guns if they are moving with smaller groups.
But Kuol says the nomads were breaking this agreement and carrying too many guns.
Reacting to the fighting, Arop Yot, Biennom County commissioner, has urged government of south Sudan to consider immediate deployment of adequate security forces in the area.
The County commissioner who spoke to Sudan Tribune from Bentiu, the state capital of Unity, said these attacks have crippled local business. They have greatly affected local trading between the two regions.
This is why it has to be given bigger attention so civilian lives return to normal. It will also affect free and fair conduct of the election if adequate security forces are not deployed, he adds.

The Misseriya is now become the victimes between south and north. Also, this is a consequance of sharia law which was opposed on southerns by northerns, that let them to want to live alone in their own state without northerns. So, who will be blam at this point? I think a famer president Jaffer Namari who brought shairia law in Sudan, and El Sadage Madai, Asan El Truabi and Omar El Bashair whom follow and opposing unwanted law on especial group of people that is south.
Please, please, there is Ramalha between south Sudan and north.

Where are the selfish leaders of this country? Can’t they see that people are killed in the south everyday and from all tribes and they just throw the blames on each other? Can’t they stop their political battle for a while and find a solution for these innocent people? When will the Sudanese blood becomes more valuable to those leaders than their political(racial) battle? There is no excuse whatsoever for killing innocent civilians from any tribe anywhere in this repeated manner.

I think the messiraya need good men to think for their future. They should know that the southern sudanese of today are not that of yesterdays. The present guys can fire complicated weapons, hang in the air F-16 jets, plung into water a tank, perfectly install electic power systems etc. When these messiraya people will think beter or their mind is incapable ?

Dear Southern Sudanese people,
This is what I always been saying that the people of Dinka Ruweng will never be in a good shape if the Government of Southern Sudan is not paying attention to the problem which is facing Dinka Ruweng Community of Biemnom County in Unity State.
Every time there is a war in Ruweng, but I can said that the war in the land of Dinka Ruweng people of Biemnom County is not a simple thing that need not to be scrutinized. The war in Ruweng started in 1969 until today. It has never stop at all. Since the ruin of Ruweng land by Arabs in 1982, there is nothing substantial that have ever came good. The war has already show itself in Ruweng land of Biemnom county, but what is the deal if that happen again?
Last few months ago, the war emerged in Awarpiny Payam of Dinka Ruweng two times and then it happened again as of today. Then again, another war started in Goli, a villiage of Mijuan Clan of Dinka Ruweng. So, all these kind of things happened in Ruweng are just some signs of CPA deterioration. But, however, if CPA is initiated and everybody was expected to enjoy it, then why Dinka Ruweng people of Biemnom can not enjoy CPA instead of enjoying the war all the times?
