Kiir advises to vote wisely during elections and referendum

By James Gatdet Dak

March 25, 2010 (JUBA) – In his campaign trail which has already covered states of Greater Upper Nile and Greater Equatoria, the incumbent President of the semi-autonomous Southern Sudan and contestant to maintain his presidential seat in the upcoming April elections, Salva Kiir Mayardit, has advised the people of Southern Sudan to vote wisely during the April elections and referendum in January 2011.

Kiir urged the voters to vote for his party, the Sudan People’s Liberation Movement (SPLM), saying it is the only party that would make the people of Southern Sudan to cross the river to the Promised Land.

Addressing a huge rally in Mundri town of Western Equatoria state, Kiir said it would be up to the choice of the people of Southern Sudan to either vote for unity of the country and remain “second class citizens” or vote for secession and establish their own independent state.

He said he wanted all the SPLM official candidates to be elected back into offices by the citizens so that they complete the good work they have been doing.

“I want Costello Manibe back and you must bring him back,” he told the crowd in Mundri in his direct reference to the current GoNU minister of Cabinet Affairs and contestant for a parliamentary seat in the constituency.

In Yambio, the capital of Western Equatoria state, Kiir equally gave support to the incumbent Caretaker governor, Jemma Nunu Kumba, and the rest of party candidates in the state.

Kiir and his deputy, Dr. Riek Machar, have left almost empty their presidency offices in Juba for the most part of this month as the top two leaders have been jointly campaigning and mobilizing their supporters for the election to the presidency and giving support to their junior party candidates.

“Dr. Riek Machar is the Vice President and also the deputy chairman of the party. Whenever I traveled outside, Dr. Riek Machar always remained in charge of government in Juba, and when he went for a mission, I remained in Juba, but now you can see us moving together and campaigning for the elections,” Kiir said.

The Southern Sudan president, who doubles as chairman of SPLM, has since 24th February campaign launch in Juba, declared his incumbent deputy as his “running mate.” In every rally he addressed across the region he always publicly declared Dr. Machar as his next Vice President if he wins the elections, as the two leaders always held their hands up and waving them to the voters, chanting “SPLM oyeee, unity oyeee.”

Kiir in the rallies also kept reminding the voters not to look for Dr. Machar’s separate box and picture during the elections, saying Machar’s box will be in his [Kiir] box, explaining that they will either win or fail together.

“If you vote for me and I win the elections, Dr. Riek Machar will continue to be my deputy in the government, and if I fail, I will also fall on his head,” he told the rally in Mundri County of Western Equatoria state.

Machar on his part always urged the people of Southern Sudan to vote for his chairman and president, Salva Kiir, whom he said had made achievements during the last five years.

While in Wau, Kiir warned of the threats caused by the Ugandan Lord’s Resistance Army (LRA) and Ambororo nomadic tribe that roam the western parts of Southern Sudan. He said the LRA was moving back to Southern Sudan from Darfur from where they were armed to cause insecurity in the South during the elections.

Though Kiir did not mention by name those that armed the LRA, he however assured that his government would deal with the situation and contain it.

The two leaders and their campaign team are expected to cover all the four states of Greater Bahr el Ghazal this week.

The polling days are expected to open on 11th April, at 8:00AM to 6:00PM and will continue for three days until 13th April.

    Dear readers,

Kiir is using popularity of Dr. Machar in order to win the elections. But that is not a crime as long as he acknowledges it from the bottom of his heart.

I hope he will soon retire and handover to his beloved deputy, Dr. Riek Machar Teny-Dhurgon (the champion of self-determination and democracy).

A visionary leader ready to turn the South into paradise on earth from 2011.

Kiir is actually fearing that traitor Riak Machar might make the coup if he left him in Juba at this time.

It makes me almost laught my teeth out when president Kiir said that see, I’m now working with Riak Machar because always he either in Juba when traitor Riak Machar is gone or esle Riak is when he is out. But the question is, who really care if he (Kiir) walks with traitor Riak Machar. Riak Machar is not Jesus nor is he God in order for president Kiir to tell people in his compaign that he is now walking with Riak Machar. Somebody closer should really advised him on his speeches; otherwise, give us break for we have no ears to ear what he is saying.

Election need to be passponed in order to gives the SPLM party times to elect not to select the presidential candidate who is compitent and visionary not the Gelwang.

    Dear Readers,

Thanks always to James Gatdet Dak for reporting the truth. We like your authentic and fact-based professional reporting. However, I personally don’t buy the fake Unity Kiir & Machar declared between them. Kiir’s using Dr. Machar’s popularity to garner the votes. Why there were ONLY hate and mistrust in Kiir’s leadership for the last five years? But Dr. Machar has to think security first, and electing Kiir second. I do not trust Kiir. He is NOT genuine with unity with Dr. Machar and the south, otherwise, it should NOT take the election to unite the two. Kiir NEVER unite with Dr. Machar or south sudanese in the last five years. His un-popular tribal handlers like Luka Biong are hiding behind Dr. Machar’s populous leadership in the south. So, Dr. Riek has to use his risk management profession correctly this time with Kiir.

Southern Sudanese are caught between a rock and a hard place. Either vote for Kiir and TRAITOR riek and continue to see zero development or vote for Lam Akol who will sell South to Khartoum without a second thought. I think it is a safe bet to vote for KIIR. I just hope that he starts doing things to elevate the living standard of millions of southerners.

KIIR has utterly failed and should not have been running. But he is the safest choice now. So I will close my eyes and grudgingly cast my vote for him. It is either that or vote for a political prostitute aka LAM.

    Dear President,

It is the best you can do to your people you fought for them over a century. Continue the struggle meanwhile we will be behind you here dealing with those evil wishers who always struggle to mislead the South in favour of their evil spirit teaching.

They are in the persons of Dr. Lam Akol and his close associates, and never heed to these disgruntled voices that want to divide you with your Vice President, Dr. Riek Machar Teny.

It is even in the Bible that when your son has committed something bad and regretted over the decision, you as a father still forgive him and call him back and that is whtat actually emphasised in story of Prodigal Son who sold his father’s belonging and went to wander and after he went and realised something fishy, he came back and his father ceremonied because of his coming reconciling him with the rest of siblings.

He never said he doesn’t want him and that is the true father in which you are one.

Those trying to upset Riek and you, want to capitalise on division and begin doing their evil work. Where on earth people don’t disagree and continue staying together let alone politics which was invented out of disagreement.

Your best running mate is Dr. Riek and you are the best President of the time.

Continue wholeheartedly with the fight, otherwise the uselss son is the one who doesn’t regret over his faulty decision like Lam who continues repeating the same given that all those atrocities committed during the war were forgiven.

Wish you safe campaign while we are here trying also local personal level camaigain

    Atok Dan.

In fact a wise vote is a vote for Mr. Aman and Mayardict. Doing the opposite is insanity and delusion.

    Thanks.

Salva Kiir is threating the civilians by saying that, if citizens let him fail, he will fail on Dr Reick Machar head or will fail with Reieck Machar togather. How come to continue every state with the same word.

And do you think civilian will worry about failure of Machar? I do not think so.I think the safty of Civilians is the most important then any thing.

    See you in election days.
