North Kordofan facing food gap – officials
February 26, 2011 (KHARTOUM) – Officials in Sudan’s North Kordofan state acknowledged the existence of a food gap that stood at 10.2% which is equivalent to 43,000 tonnes of the total consumption which is a little over 426,000 tonnes of food grains.
The “food gap” is defined as the difference between needs and domestic consumption and imports.
The director of planning and agricultural statistics in the state Adam Musa Sharif told the independent Al-Shurooq TV that the results of the agricultural survey conducted recently confirmed the presence of a food gap in many areas of the state specially in the north and northwest.
Sharif said that the situation requires urgent intervention to contain the effects of food shortages before the crisis worsens
He pointed to some remedies that were invoked including releasing quantities from the state’s strategic food reserves in the market at subsidized prices and activating the program ‘Food for Work’ in collaboration with other organizations.
Other experts attributed the food gap to climatic changes and fluctuation of rainfall which led to poor harvest.

This is what we have been telling you that the NCP is doing all it can to make sure that your guys run out of food. these tactics include cutting of agricultural funding, lack of education system in North Kordorfan region. you guys were saying that southerners are not telling the truth, now you have seen it infront of you and are crying for help. this i s a good lesson for next time.
