South Sudan denies conceding disputed Abyei to North Sudan

June 22, 2011 (JUBA) – South Sudan has denied statements from Khartoum’s ruling National Congress Party (NCP) that the former has conceded future ownership of the disputed Abyei territory to North Sudan during their contacts in Addis Ababa.

Under the fresh deal inked on Monday between the signatories to the 2005 Comprehensive Peace Agreement (CPA), North’s Sudan Armed Forces (SAF) and the South’s Sudan People Liberation Army (SPLA) would withdraw any troops they have from the oil-producing district after which Ethiopian troops would be deployed to fill the void.

The agreement details the mechanism by which the Abyei administration council would replace the one dissolved by president Omer Hassan al-Bashir following SAF’s takeover of Abyei last month. Its chief shall be picked by the SPLM but must be approved by the NCP. The deputy however, would be nominated by the NCP and endorsed by the Southern ex-rebel group.

However, on Tuesday barely one day after the agreement a statement was attributed to the NCP’s official in charge of Abyei file, Didiri Mohamed Ahmed, as saying that there was an understanding reached at the Addis Ababa meeting between the two parties that South Sudan would concede future ownership of Abyei to the North.

In his response on Tuesday, the spokesman of the South Sudan army, the SPLA, Philip Aguer, told the press that the statement from the NCP senior official was incorrect.

Aguer further clarified that North and South Sudan only agreed in Addis Ababa to split in half the membership of the administration of Abyei area on a temporary basis until the people of the area conduct their referendum within the territory of Dinka Ngok per the demarcation by the Permanent Court of Arbitration (PCA) in The Hague.

A UN peacekeeping force of 3,000 Ethiopian soldiers would also be deployed in the disputed region.

The African Union High Level implementation Panel (AUHIP) headed by former South African president Thabo Mbeki mediated the talks in the Ethiopian capital, Addis Ababa, between the two peace partners to resolve the Abyei crisis that occurred last month when the Sudanese army took control of the area.

Who knows, The messiriya are very aggresive on maintaining Abyei as a northern territory while the Ngok Dinka are still behaving like a woman with two husbands.
There is nothing good to expect from those negotiations frankly.

SAF can not dare to set foot in Juba. They maybe able to bomb Juba with their few outdated jets from Nazis and fake chinese but not their troops. If they do non, would return to Khartoum.

Let us calm down.If you read carefully it is written that the news was ” attrrbuted” to Mr. Dirdiri. Nothing is confirming that. Which means probably it is just a rumer.

Let us not fight over a rumer and give Peace a chance.

People says Abyei is another Kashmir in Africa, another Gaza in Africa and so on and on and on again is looked likely to be true BUT Abyei will never be in the North. We only wants those who needs us regardless the naurue of Abyei. When it come to the commission’s rules and guideline chapter 14, section 2, tell us that the person who reside permanently in Abyei throughout the year is the one that eligible for vote when time for referendum come. For sure Abyei residents are there exclusive Misseriya.

This is another NCP propaganda for local consumption.
I read the document, there is no place it is written Abyei referendum and protocol are repealed and Abyei is now permanently North Sudan territory.
Abyei status still to be determined by referendum as stated in CPA Abyei Protocol.

I don’t know on what evidence did Mr. Diridiri utters his allegation that the SPLM concedes the Abyei to the north. Doesn’t he knows that Abyei was transfered administratively to Fulla in 1905. and that her citizens were Ngok Dinka? why do people try to complicate things? Abyei belongs to Ngok Dinka, and if there are other ethnic groups who came to reside in Abyei, they are welcome, but don’t always say that the nomads Messiriya have the right of citizenship in Abyei. Why rejecting the same to southerners who lived in Khartoum for more than fifty years saying that they belong to the south. Abyei belongs to Ngok Dinka chiefdom who has to undergo their referendum without any intruder.

    Khartoum92!

Well said. Abei is North Sudan but one thing that confuse me is, please explain to the board what does Abei mean in your sickening langauge? Who came up with that name Arabs or Dinka Ngok? Just remember, we Republic Of South Sudan a’nt going nowhere, we just took a break having one thing in our mind; our Africans brothers left behind which comprises the Nubians, Darfurs and others Africans within Khartoum itself. We will be back for the goals of eliminating Arabs by kicking your ass back to Saudi Arabia.

Lastly, we owner of Sudan have suffered a lot under Arabs colonalism from the beginning the moments of independent from British to the present. We had enough from you Arabs people within all your secret genocides you carried out on our Africans tribes from East to West, Central, and South.Your secret of using chemical weapons with the intention of wiping out Africans tribes had been discovered. Therefore, the world hadn’t yet gone to sleep witnesing all these crimes of ethnic cleansing you have been carrying out with China defending your massacred due to the oil business.

Nevertheless, it will come to an end if the world get serious about all these situations and began with the responses to nuke your ass including your master defender.China have never objects to the ethnic cleansing rather than just giving you more chemical weapons to clear out human live so that your business of oil will go on forever. In my prediction, these will come to an end just a matter of time.We are still working harder on the rope for hanging your master, the mastermind Omar Hassan Al-Bashir and anybody opposing or supporting him will also be hang.
