Jonglei state: Twic East denies attacking villages in Pibor
July 2, 2011 (BOR) – Dau Akooi Jurkcuh, the commissioner of Twic East county in Jonglei state, has refuted accusations that armed youth from his area launched a deadly attack on villages in neighboring Pibor county last week.
In a press release sent to the Sudan Tribune, the commissioner describes recent media reports which quoted officials from Pibor accusing Lou Nuer from Twic East for the attacks as “unfounded”.
“The authorities of Twic East county deplore the unfounded accusations made…against the people of Twic East county [as involved attack on Pibor county villages],” Dau said in the letter.
Akot Maze Adikir, the commissioner of Pibor county – mainly occupied by the Murle ethnic group – in Jonglei state, allege that armed youths from neighboring counties of Twic East, Duk, Nyirol, Uror and Akobo launched heavy attacks on villages on June 15, 2011. Commissioner Akot claims that hundreds of people were killed and thousands of cattle raided.
Twic East commissioner Dau demanded that the Pibor comminsioner apologise his “for malicious statement” adding that the accusation had damaged the integrity of people of Twic East for “wrongly link[ing] them with killing of innocent civilians of Pibor county.”
South Sudan is due to celebrate independence from North Sudan in less than a week after having voted for secession as part of a 2005 peace accord. Local feuds over cattle and meager resources have resulted in the killing of thousands of civilians and raised concerns about the viability of the new nation as well as various rebel groups.

Something like that can never happen! Twic never attack but defend or retaliate for something that shows the real problem.Every South Sudanese knew that it was false. Lou Nuer attack innocent murle for just cattle and grains.

The comment put forward by twic east county commissioner is true, Dinka twic and Nuer community they can not organised one attack beacuse they not friend,that attackers might be from Nuer community who attacked Pibor county in 2009. Also Dinka twic are good people they are borned in laws and they are protecting the laws since the creation, they attackers are not from their county, turn finger to Nuer community if you want to accuse anybody. The Pibor commissioner should to apologise beacuse his people are enemies to twic but twic are not enemies to them.

I like your Comment first,but remove the word Lou Nuer attacking for the Cattle and grains. They were revenging for the attacked that was carried out by Murle Youth by killing Kidnapping of Lou Nuer women and Children. Iam Dinka,but iam tired of seeing Murle taking some peple Children while they Got their Penis to produce the Children. Second i hate all this kind revenge going on by Southerners to their own People. We need Unity and Peace among ourselves more then disruction.
