S. Sudan cabinet pushes for 2015 election funds

September 4, 2014 (JUBA) – Members of South Sudan cabinet have directed the finance minister to unveil funds for the conduct of the 2015 elections.

“The council of ministers has resolved and directed the ministry of finance to release funds to the National Elections Commission so that they carry out their activities,” information minister Michael Makuei told reporters in the capital, Juba, on Tuesday.

He said the term of the current government officially expires on 8 July 2015.

“This means that by 9 July 2015, a new government should be in place, South Sudan information and broadcasting minister,” Makuei said.

The council of minister reportedly resolved that the national elections commission uses the 2010 constituencies for the upcoming elections.

However, it remains unclear as to how much was required by the electoral body to organize a free, fair and credible electoral process.

Meanwhile, China has signed three categories of grants to fund some projects in the country through its Exim bank.
