Samson Wasara, the university’s administrator said an electricity blast caused the fire outbreak, which started at about 10: 00am [local time].

“As we were on holidays, we just saw a stream of smoke mounting from the university campus and we rushed [there]. As per now, however, the fire brigades are trying to put off the fire,” Wasara told Sudan Tribune.

“Everything in the store has burned to ashes,” he added.

The official, however, said the incident would not affect the institution’s re-opening.

“It will deficiently affect the accommodation of the students if they come back from the holidays,” Wasara remarked.

A fire brigade official attributed their slow response to lack of direct communication between the university and the fire department.

“The whole state is using one water tank which is based at Wau airport and when we were informed of fire at the university, it took us minutes to reach the place from the airport,” said Francis Biajo.
